Vineyard
Grape intake
The step by which picked grapes are taken into the cellar and recorded for the first time.
What gets recorded is quantity, variety, site and must weight — and with them the batch begins. Everything that happens in the cellar afterwards hangs on that first entry.
It is the most expensive moment for a mistake: what is wrong here is wrong in the harvest declaration, in the yield check and in the batch history too — and it often only shows up months later, when nobody remembers which trailer belonged to which parcel.

A defined, named area of vineyard whose name may appear on the label.
Batch
A defined quantity of wine that is treated and tracked as one unit.
Must weight
The sugar content of the must, measured in Germany in degrees Oechsle.
Harvest declaration
The declaration of the quantities harvested, by area, variety and quality level.
