Packaging regulation (PPWR)
The EU regulation that requires anyone supplying filled packaging to private end consumers to register, join a scheme and declare quantities.
Since 12 August 2026 the EU Packaging Regulation PPWR (EU) 2025/40 applies directly, replacing the former German VerpackG. Germany added a national accompanying law, the VerpackDG. LUCID registration and scheme participation continue in substance.
On a wine estate it covers the whole of the packaging: bottle, closure, capsule, label, case, dividers, film, gift packaging.
What gets declared is the mass per material in kilograms. Nobody weighs bottles for it — you record once per article what the packaging consists of, and then calculate from the orders.
The expensive mistake is estimating: not knowing exactly, you round up, and you pay a surcharge on your own uncertainty year after year.
