Downy mildew

The vine disease that needs wetness, warmth and time all at once.

Plasmopara viticola. It needs three things together: water on the leaf, a temperature roughly between 10 and 30 °C, and enough hours of both.

Take one of the three away and nothing happens. Put all three together and an infection window opens — before there is anything to see. The oil spots on the upper leaf surface only appear after the incubation period.

German names this one after the genus; English does not.
